The Green Group Outreach (GGO) of CVUU has an affordable Solar PV starter system in place as of September 21, 2009. We have two 175 watt panels generating electricity and plan to add more panels. But the upfront work is done – getting the paperwork into Logan City, and having the electricians do the new wiring to the power box.
Our goal in moving towards carbon neutrality on our building is tri-fold. First, as a congregation we recognize the harmful ecological consequences of extracting, converting and delivering coal fired electricity. We feel a moral obligation to ending our use of coal for electricity. Second, we want to send a strong message to our community that solar photo voltaic systems are not an idea of the far off future, but rather a reality right here and now. Anyone who's building or remodeling can make the move to solar energy. Third, we want to collectively support this industry so as it grows, the costs come down.
It's not futuristic or progressive – it's a reality right now: more people are looking at energy costs and the new electric vehicles and making the switch to solar power.
We are close to kicking the dirty-coal habit and can do so by adding more panels until we have completely met and exceeded our building's usage.
We're not asking for much – we're intentionally asking a LARGER number of socially conscious households for SMALLER donations so that more people in Cache Valley feel personally connected to this project. (We hope you might consider the benefits of a solar PV system for your home!)
Please donate and thank you for helping to clean our eco-system one electron at a time!
